Producers of the forthcoming Jamie Lloyd revival of EVITA have announced further casting for the show, coming to the London Palladium this summer.

Already announced last month is Golden Globe winner Rachel Zegler (West Side Story, Snow White), who is set to star as Eva Perón in Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s hit musical.

She will be joined by Diego Andres Rodriguez, who will make his West End debut as Che.

A recent graduate of the University of Michigan’s musical theater program, Diego is currently playing Artie in Jamie Lloyd’s Sunset Boulevard on Broadway, and is standby for Joe Gillis.

Evita begins performances on 14 June at the London Palladium, with rehearsals set to start in London on 28 April.

There’s no current news on who will play Juan Perón, or other roles in the show.

The rags to riches story of Argentina’s first lady Eva Perón features musical numbers including “You Must Love Me”, “Another Suitcase in Another Hall”, “Oh! What A Circus”, and showstopper “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina”.

Evita is produced by Michael Harrison for Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals and The Jamie Lloyd Company with The Really Useful Group.

The production is widely tipped to be transferring to Broadway following its London run this summer.

Jamie Lloyd (Sunset BoulevardA Doll’s HouseThe Tempest) originally directed Evita at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre as part of their 2019 season. The Palladium production is billed as “reimagined by the visionary award-winning director Jamie Lloyd”, and will be an evolution from the Regent’s Park show, with lots of new elements.

Fabian Alois will choreograph, with musical supervision by Alan Williams, and design by Lloyd’s longtime collaborator Soutra Gilmour.

Jamie Lloyd said in a statement: “Before he even graduated, Diego made his professional debut as Artie in our production of Sunset Blvd. on Broadway, in which he also understudied and played the leading role, Joe Gillis. He is an incredible young actor and a fantastic vocalist. We’re so thrilled he will be making his West End debut in Tim and Andrew’s iconic musical.”

Diego Andres Rodriguez said: “I’m beyond thrilled to be making my West End debut in Evita this summer at the historic London Palladium! Being directed by Jamie Lloyd again, working with The Jamie Lloyd Company’s incredible team, and playing Che opposite Rachel is an opportunity of a lifetime. This is a dream come true!”

Jamie Lloyd’s current production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard starring Nicole Scherzinger is now playing on Broadway until 13 July 2025.

Jamie Lloyd’s recent production of Much Ado About Nothing starring Tom Hiddleston and Hayley Atwell finished up at the weekend at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane.

Evita is playing at the London Palladium from 14 June to 6 September 2025.
