Smash-hit Australian musical Muriel’s Wedding, based on the much-loved movie, is having its UK premiere at the Curve in Leicester.
A fabulous cast includes Megan Ellis (Spring Awakening, Careen) as Muriel Heslop and Annabel Marlow (Six The Musical) as Rhonda Epinstall, alongside Darren Day (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, London Palladium) as Muriel’s father Bill Heslop, Laura Medforth (Hello, Dolly! London Palladium) as Muriel’s mother Betty Heslop, Jacob Warner (Muriel’s Wedding The Musical, 2019 Australian tour) as Muriel’s brother Perry Heslop, Joseph Peacock (Becoming Nancy, Birmingham Rep) as Malcolm Heslop, Lena Pattie Jones (FANGIRLS, Lyric Hammersmith) as Muriel’s sister Joanie Heslop, Ethan Pascal Peters (Cable Street, Southwark Playhouse) as Brice, and Stephen Madsen (Muriel’s Wedding The Musical, world premiere at Sydney’s Roslyn Packer Theatre) as Alexander Schkuratov

The UK premiere cast also includes the Porpoise Spit’s girl gang including Helen Hill (Pretty Woman The Musical, Savoy Theatre) as Tania, Lillie-Pearl Wildman (CABARET, Kit Kat Club) as Cheryl, Jasmine Beel (Bonnie & Clyde, UK tour) as Nicole and Daisy Twells (Heathers, @sohoplace and UK tour) as Janine.
The cast is completed by Bronte Alice-Tadman as Deidre Chambers and Frida, Chris Bennett (Only Fools and Horses, Theatre Royal Haymarket) as Bill Heslop’s business partner Ken, Jasmine Hackett as Agnetha, Aaron Tsindos as Benny and Jamie Doncaster as Björn; alongside Edward Turner, Carlo Boumouglbay, Andrew Berlin, Sophie Linder-Lee, Charlotte O’Rourke, Lizzie Nance, Serina Mathew, Will Luckett, and Jamil Abbasi.

The production is a collaboration between Made at Curve and the show’s Australian producers Global Creatures (Moulin Rouge! The Musical, Strictly Ballroom The Musical), in association with Sydney Theatre Company.
Muriel’s Wedding is directed by Simon Phillips (Priscilla Queen of the Desert), who directed the Australian world premiere production; and choreography is by Andrew Hallsworth, who again choreographed the Aussie version of the show.

The show boasts a book by PJ Hogan, who wrote and directed the original movie version, with songs by Kate Miller-Heidke and Keir Nuttall, and additional songs by Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus and Stig Anderson originally written for ABBA.
Muriel’s Wedding The Musical played the Lyric Theatre in Sydney in 2017, proving a huge hit with audiences and winning five Helpmann Awards – the Australian equivalent of the Oliviers, and 7 Sydney Theatre Awards. The show came back in 2019 with a successful Australian tour.
The stage show is based on P. J. Hogan’s smash-hit 1994 movie, which is celebrating its 30th year. The film starred Toni Collette, Rachel Griffiths, Jeanie Drynan, Sophie Lee, and Bill Hunter.

Muriel’s Wedding The Musical is about Muriel Heslop: stuck in a dead-end life in Porpoise Spit, Muriel dreams of the perfect wedding – the white dress, the church, the attention. Unfortunately, there’s one thing missing. A groom. Following her dreams to Sydney, Muriel ends up with everything she ever wanted – a man, a fortune and a million Twitter followers. That’s when things start to go really wrong.
Muriel’s Wedding The Musical is playing at the Curve, Leicester from 10 April to 10 May 2025.
The show is also widely rumoured to be heading to the West End, although there are no current details available.
