Award-winning West End musical Disney’s The Lion King is celebrating another two milestones in style next month.

In February, the acclaimed show will celebrate its 10,000th performance, and its 20 millionth guest at the West End’s Lyceum Theatre in London.

The milestones are hot on the tail of the show celebrating its 25th anniversary in October 2024; and in April 2024, the show overtook Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats to become the 5th longest running musical in West End history.

To celebrate these two new milestones, a free, pop-up exhibition will take place at Battersea Power Station‘s Turbine Hall during Half Term, from 17 to 23 February 2025.

The exhibition will allow fans to explore the masks, puppets and costumes from the Olivier Award-winning musical up-close, and learn about the inspiration behind many of the show’s impressive designs.

Iconic characters such as Rafiki and Zazu will be on display, alongside the iconic Mufasa, Simba and Nala masks and other much-loved pieces from the musical.

There will also be workshops for families, led by Disney Teaching Artists, through the week. To book the workshops, see the link below.

Julie Taymor’s internationally celebrated stage adaptation of The Lion King opened on Broadway in 1997, resulting in 25 global productions in nine different languages. The show opened in London’s Lyceum Theatre in 1999.

The show is designed by Richard Hudson, with lighting by Donald Holder, costume design by Julie Taymor, and choreography by Garth Fagan.

The Lion King’s book was adapted by Roger Allers, who co-directed the animated feature and Irene Mecchi, who co-wrote the screenplay. Songs are by Elton John and Tim Rice, plus South African composer Lebo M, with additional material by Julie Taymor and Mark Mancina.

Disney’s The Lion King is now playing at the Lyceum Theatre in London, booking to 26 October 2025.

Also currently running at Battersea Power Station is their annual Light Festival 2025, featuring large-scale light installations and a winter art light trail, until 23 February 2025.
