Bill Kenwright Ltd has announced full casting, and 2025 tour dates, for James Graham’s adaptation of Alan Bleasdale’s Boys From the Blackstuff.

The play is heading out on tour following seasons at Liverpool’s Royal Court, the National Theatre and in the West End.

Boys From the Blackstuff starts its tour at the Theatre Royal Windsor on 29 January 2025, and then visits London Richmond, Bromley, Bath, Blackpool, Glasgow, Birmingham, Liverpool, Cheltenham, Derby, Salford, Guildford, Leeds, Newcastle, Colchester, Doncaster, Stoke, Brighton, Canterbury, and Mold. The cast will feature George Caple (Boys From The Blackstuff) as Chrissie, Jurell Carter (Emmerdale) as Loggo, Jay Johnson (Greasy Spoon) as Yosser, Ged McKenna (The Tower) as George, Mark Womack (Romeo and Julie) as Dixie, Reiss Barber (Bull) as Snowy, Amber Blease (Guardians of the Galaxy – Secret Cinema) as Angie, Kyle Harrison-Pope (Harvey) as Kevin, Sean Kingsley (Bindweed) as Malloy, Jamie Peacock (Boys From The Blackstuff) as Moss, and Sian Polhill-Thomas (Beginning) as Ms Sutcliffe.

They are joined by Graham Elwell (The Independent Socialist Republic of the Upper End of The Lower Breck Road), Elliot Kingsley (The Tempest), and Victoria Oxley (Much Ado About Nothing).

Directed by Kate Wasserberg, artistic director of Theatr Clwyd, the creative team also includes set and costume design by Amy Jane Cook, lighting design by Ian Scott, movement direction by Rachael Nanyonjo, original music and sound design by Dyfan Jones, video design by Jamie Jenkin and fight direction by Rachel Bown-Williams of Rc-Annie Ltd. Associate Director is Tim Welton.

James Graham’s powerful adaptation of Alan Bleasdale’s BAFTA award-winning television drama has picked up rave reviews from the critics since it premiered at Liverpool’s Royal Court in September 2023.

The show is set in 1980s Liverpool. Chrissie, Loggo, George, Dixie and Yosser are used to hard work and providing for their families. But there is no work and there is no money. What are they supposed to do? Work harder, work longer, buy cheaper, spend less? They just need a chance. Life is tough but the lads can play the game. Find the jobs, avoid the ‘sniffers’ and see if you can have a laugh along the way.

James Graham’s other dramas include Dear England, which is returning to the National Theatre next year starring Gwilym Lee; and Punch, which is transferring to London’s The Young Vic theatre in March 2025.
