After much speculation – a lot of it by the show itself, Operation Mincemeat has confirmed that it will open on Broadway in 2025.
A huge hit in London’s West End, where it continues to play at the Fortune Theatre, the Olivier Award-winning Best New Musical will open at Broadway’s Golden Theatre, with previews from 15 February 2025, and an official opening on 20 March 2025.
Operation Mincemeat is the first musical to open at The Shubert Organization-owned Golden Theatre since Tony Award-winner Avenue Q in 2009.
The show started out on the London fringe, commissioned by the New Diorama Theatre in 2019. Following sold-out transfers to the Southwark Playhouse and Riverside Studios, the show moved into the West End’s Fortune Theatre on 9 May 2023, and has now sold over 300,000 tickets.
Earlier this year, the producers of the show started surveying American audiences to canvass support for a Broadway run. 90.2% of Americans surveyed believed that the show is not “too British” for Broadway, and the London production has seen a huge increase in Americans watching the show, up from 2% in 2023, to 14%.
According to Broadway Journal’s Philip Boroff, the show is having to raise at least $11.5 million to play on Broadway, substantially more than the costs of the West End run.
The Golden Theatre is one of Broadway’s smallest venues with 800 seats, although still much bigger than London’s Fortune Theatre with around 440.
The huge slate of positive reviews for the show includes a number of US critics, including praise from Peter Marks in the Washington Post, Helen Shaw in the New Yorker and Alexis Soloski in The New York Times.
Casting, show times and ticket prices for the Broadway run are to be announced. Ticket prices will be especially interesting given the West End production’s one-price-fits-all policy, with all seats the same price depending on the day of the week.
Operation Mincemeat is written and composed by SpitLip, who are David Cumming, Felix Hagan, Natasha Hodgson and Zoë Roberts. They all performed in the initial West End run of the show, and it is widely assumed that they will transfer with the production to Broadway.
The show is directed by Robert Hastie (Standing at the Sky’s Edge) and choreographed by Jenny Arnold (Jerry Springer: The Opera).
The creative team also includes set and costume design by Ben Stones, lighting design by Mark Henderson, sound design by Mike Walker, orchestrator and vocal arranger Steve Sidwell, musical director Joe Bunker, associate director Georgie Staight, associate choreographer Paul Isaiah, and casting by Pearson Casting.

The current London cast of Operation Mincemeat features Emily Barber, Seán Carey, Chlöe Hart, Christian Andrews and Claire-Marie Hall , with George Jennings and Jonty Peach joining Holly Sumpton and Geri Allen.
Operation Mincemeat is playing at the Golden Theatre in New York from 15 February 2025.
