A sad update from The Other Palace Theatre in London, with news that Cake: The Marie Antoinette Playlist is cutting short its planned run at the venue.

Originally booking to 10 November, the show will now close on 29 September 2024.

Customers with tickets they have already purchased for performances dates from 1 October 2024 onwards, will be contacted by their point of purchase

Directed by Bronagh Lagan (Cruise) and choreographed by Christopher Tendai (Closer To Heaven), following original direction and choreography by Drew McOnie (The Artist), Cake: The Marie Antoinette Playlist has a book by Morgan Lloyd Malcolm (Emilia) and a score by Tasha Taylor Johnson and Jack McManus.

The show stars Zizi Strallen (Mary Poppins, Strictly Ballroom) as Marie Antoinette, and Renée Lamb (Be More Chill, SIX) as Jeanne, alongside Millie O’Connell (The Cher Show, Six) as Nicole, and Travis Ross (Cabaret, 42 Balloons) as the Cardinal, alongside an ensemble which includes Lila Eccles (Cinderella), Tarik Frimpong (The Drifters Girl), Sunny Lee (Hillsong Carols), Zara MacIntosh (& Juliet), Emma Robotham-Hunt (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie), and Manu Sarswat.

Cake: The Marie Antoinette Playlist mashes up a multi-genre pop score with 18th century France, to retell a story that sparked a revolution in 18th Century France and at the court of King Louis and Marie Antoinette.

The creative team also includes set and costume design by Sami Fendall, lighting design by Joshie Harriette and casting by Will Burton.

A statement on behalf of the producers, Bill Kenwright Ltd and Paul Taylor Mills, said: “Sadly, Cake: The Marie Antoinette Playlist will conclude its run of performances at the Other Palace on Sunday 29 September. Despite strong initial interest in this exciting new musical, it is not viable for the production to continue beyond this point and complete its planned run. We would like to thank all of the cast, creative team, technical staff and all of those who have helped to develop this new musical to this point. All of the team involved have worked incredibly hard to create an excellent show which we are all incredibly proud of.”
