Bank of Dave is set to be a new stage musical.
Bank of Dave The Musical is based on the true-story of Dave Fishwick, who founded a community bank in Burnley after discovering that local businesses couldn’t get loans from larger banks.
Last year his story became a movie starring Rory Kinnear as Dave, which has proved a huge hit this year on Netflix. New movie Bank Of Dave: The Sequel is currently in production, following Fishwick as he takes on Payday lenders.
It is believed that comedian and West End star Jason Manford has been lined up as the star of the new musical, playing Dave Fishwick.
A few weeks ago, Jason told listeners to his Absolute Radio Show that he is in talks to star in the new Bank of Dave The Musical.
He said that “obviously they need a Northerner who can sing and act so I’m up there! And also, available.”
Also, earlier this week on BBC Breakfast, Dave Fishwick confirmed that a stage musical is in the works, and that Jason Manford is in talks to be the star.
It is unclear whether the show will tour before a West End run, or will open cold in the West End.
No further details have been announced about who is writing the show. Actor and writer Rob Madge and composer Pippa Cleary were originally believed to be involved, although details of the project are no longer listed on their agent’s website.
Timing is believed to be 2025.
Jason Manford recently starred as Cowardly Lion in the touring and West End production of The Wizard Of Oz.
Next month he stars in the West End concert production of Something Rotten at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane.
In September, Jason will once again host Magic at the Musicals at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
His other musicals credits include Sweeney Todd and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
