Jeremy Herrin will direct a new stage adaptation of John le Carré’s cold war thriller The Spy Who Came in from the Cold.
The new play will run at the Minerva Theatre this Summer as part of Chichester Festival Theatre’s 2024 season, the first to be programmed by new Artistic Director Justin Audibert.
Le Carré’s classic novel, the first ever to be adapted for the stage, is by David Eldridge whose plays include Beginning and Middle which both ran at the National Theatre in London.
Jeremy Herrin is an award winning director whose work includes A Mirror now playing in the West End; the recent production’s of Ulster American with Woody Harrelson; and James Graham hit play Best of Enemies; and the upcoming West End revival of Long Day’s Journey into Night starring Brian Cox (Succession) and Patricia Clarkson.
The piece is set at the height of the cold war with disillusioned British spy Alec Leamas persuaded by head of ‘The Circus’ George Smiley to undertake one last mission against the leader of the East German Secret Service.
Casting for the production is to be announced.
The Spy Who Came in from the Cold runs from 23 August to 21 September at Chichester Festival Theatre.
