Jez Butterworth’s new West End play The Hills of California has revealed initial casting for the show.

The Hills of California will star Laura Donnelly (The Ferryman, The Nevers, Outlander), Leanne Best (Sweat, Ripper Street, Line of Duty), Ophelia Lovibond (Minx, W1A, The Effect) and Helena Wilson (Vogue World, Jack Absolute Flies Again, Rosencrantz & Guildenstern) as the Webb family.

They will be joined by Bryan Dick, Shaun Dooley, Corey Johnson, Richard Lumsden, Natasha Magigi, Nancy Allsop, Sophia Ally, Alfie Jackson, Lara McDonnell, Lucy Moran and Nicola Turner.

Writer Jez Butterworth (Jerusalem) and director Sam Mendes (The Lehman Trilogy) are teaming up again following their triumphant West End hit The Ferryman.

The Hills of California is billed as a generational drama that rifles through decades of one family’s past, set in Blackpool during the long hot summer of 1976.

The creative team also includes: Designer: Rob Howell, Lighting Designer: Natasha Chivers, Composer, Sound Designer and Arranger: Nick Powell, Choreographer: Ellen Kane, Musical Supervisor and Arranger: Candida Caldicot, Casting Director: Amy Ball, Young Person’s Casting Director: Verity Naughton and Associate Director: Zoé Ford Burnett.

The Hills of California is produced by Sonia Friedman Productions and Neal Street Productions, and will play at Harold Pinter Theatre from 27 January to 15 June 2024.
