The comedy will be directed by David Leveaux, who directed Wanamaker in Electra at the Donmar Warehouse in 1997 for which she won an Olivier Award.

Passion Play, which is about a 25-year marriage that is ripped apart, will open at the Duke Of York’s Theatre from 1 May 2013, and is produced by Tali Pelman.

The last major production of Nichol’s 1981 play was at the Donmar Warehouse and the Comedy Theatre in 2000 starring Cherie Lunghi and James Laurenson.
