‘Hamlet’ with Ian McKellen extends Theatre Royal Windsor run

Theatre Royal Windsor’s production of Hamlet starring Ian McKellen has extended its run by three weeks, it has been announced.

Directed by Sean Mathias, the reimagined age, colour, and gender-blind production, sees Ian McKellen lead a company that includes Francesca Annis, Frances Barber, Jonathan Hyde, and Jenny Seagrove.

Produced by Bill Kenwright, Hamlet is currently in previews and runs until 25 September. The run was previously sold-out however tickets are now available for the final three weeks of the run. Tickets start at just £25 with discounts available for NHS workers and students.

The staging of Hamlet has been designed to offer the unique experience of being up-close and immersed in the performance via Shakespearean wooden bleacher seats on either side of the stage.

Hamlet will be be followed by Martin Sherman’s adaptation of Anton Chekov’s The Cherry Orchard, with McKellen playing Firs the elderly manservant. The Cherry Orchard run has pushed back its dates, and will now be presented from 1 October to 13 November.

The full cast for both productions include  Ian McKellen, Ben Allen, Francesca Annis, Frances Barber, Emmanuella Cole, Llinos Daniel, Alis Wyn Davies, Ashley D Gayle, Alison Halstead, Nick Howard-Brown, Jonathan Hyde, Asif Khan, Lee Knight, Missy Malek and Jenny Seagrove.
