Waitress UK tour to feature Lucie Jones, Matt Willis and Sandra Marvin

Casting has been revealed for the UK and Ireland tour of Waitress The Musical which opens this September.

In a coup for casting, Lucie Jones, Sandra Marvin, Evelyn Hoskins and Tamlyn Henderson will reprise their roles from the West End production that closed in March 2020.

Lucie Jones, who first shot to fame as an X-Factor contestant back when it was popular, will play Jenna. EastEnders alum Sandra Marvin, Evelyn Hoskins and Tamlyn Henderson will play Becky, Dawn and Earl respectively.  

Busted’s Matt Willis will play lead love interest Dr. Pomatter. No stranger to the musical theatre stage, Willis’ West End credits include ‘Fiyero’ in Wicked at the Apollo Victoria, ‘Nick Hurley’ in Flashdance at the Shaftesbury Theatre and most recently ‘Bob Cratchit’ in A Christmas Carol at the Dominion Theatre.

Jones will play all tour dates with Willis exiting after Hull and Marvin and Hoskins leaving the production after Bristol performances.

Rounding out lead cast are George Crawford as Ogie and Christopher D. Hunt as Cal. The company also includes Monique Ashe-Palmer, Amelia Atherton, Donal Brennan, Aimée Fisher, Nathanael Landskroner, Charlie Martin, Liam McHugh, Olivia Mitchell and Ben Morris. 

What’s it about?

Based on the film of the same name, it follows a young waitress in a diner who dreams of leaving her job and forging a life of her own. It has music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles, book by Jessie Nelson, direction by Tony Award-winner Diane Paulus and choreography by Lorin Latarro.

The West End production of Waitress began performances at the Adelphi Theatre on 8 February 2019 with an official opening on 7 March 2019. It was due to complete its run on 4 July 2020, however due to covid its final performance was 14 March 2020.

UK Tour dates

The tour will open at New Wimbledon Theatre on 4 September 2021 followed by Leeds Grand Theatre (14-18 Sep), The Hawth, Crawley (2-25 Sep), Sheffield Lyceum (28 Sep- 2 Oct), Milton Keynes Theatre (4-9 Oct), Eastbourne Congress Theatre (19-23 Oct), Sunderland Empire (25-30 Oct), Manchester Opera House (8-20 Nov), His Majesty’s Theatre Aberdeen (23-27 Nov), Regents Theatre, Stoke on Trent (29 Nov – 4 Dec).

The tour will break over the Christmas pantomime season and kick off 2022 at Northampton Royal and Derngate (10-15 Jan), Edinburgh Playhouse (18-22 Jan), Curve Leicester (24-29 Jan), Hull New Theatre (31 Jan – 5 Feb), Bristol Hippodrome (8-12 Feb), New Victoria Theatre Woking (14-19 Feb), Churchill Theatre Bromley (21-26 Feb), Belfast Grand Opera House (1-5 Mar), Newcastle Theatre Royal (8-12 Mar), Theatre Royal Plymouth (21-26 Mar), Llandudno Venue Cymru (28 Mar-2 Apr), Eden Court Inverness (5-9 Apr), Glasgow King’s Theatre (12-16 Apr), Oxford New Theatre (25-30 Apr), Liverpool Empire (9-14 May) and Birmingham Hippodrome  (16-21 May).  Full dates can be found here.
