In rehearsal: Adrian Lester and Danny Sapani in ‘Hymn’

First look images of Hustle actor Adrian Lester and Danny Sapani have been released as they rehearse for their upcoming live-streamed Almeida Theatre production of Hymn.

Written by Lester’s real life partner Lolita Chakrabarti (Life of Pi), Hymn follows two men who meet at a funeral and subsequently change one another’s lives. Described as a soulful new production the play asks ‘what does it take to be a good father, brother or son?

Lester is best know for playing big-time con artist Michael “Mickey Bricks” Stone on the BBC television series Hustle, however his extensive theatrical roles include Stephen Sondheim musicals Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Company as we as more dramatic roles such as Red Velvet, Tennessee Williams’ Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and the title role in Othello at the National Theatre. He won the prestigious Ian Charleson Award for his 1991 performance as Rosalind in Cheek by Jowl’s all-male production of As You Like It and an Olivier Award for the role of Robert in Company.

Sapani is known for his screen appearances in Misfits, Doctor Who, Penny Dreadful, The Crown, Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Black Panther. He was recently appeared on-stage in Yaël Farber’s production of Les Blancs at the National Theatre.

The two-hander will be live-streamed to the Almeida Theatre website with performances running from Wednesday 17 February until Saturday 20 February 2021. Tickets for the production are now on sale with tickets ranging from £10-£40.

The production is directed by Blanche McIntyre with design by Miriam Buether, lighting by Prema Mehta, sound by Gregory Clarke, musical direction by DJ Walde and movement by Robia Milliner.
