The world premiere production of Psychodrama, a new play by Matt Wilkinson, has moved to January 2021.
Wilkinson’s witting and gripping revenge play is about an actress in her mid-40’s under investigation for the murder of a theatre director, who just happens to have been cast in a new stage adaption of Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho.
A whip smart take on what it means to be middle-aged and female in an industry captivated by stardust and beauty, Psychodrama will star Emily Bruni, best known for her recurring role as Gale in C4’s Peep Show.
Written and directed by Matt Wilkinson (My Eyes Went Dark), Psychodrama features design by James Turner (Toast), lighting by Elliot Griggs (Fleabag) and sound design by Gareth Fry (Harry Potter and The Cursed Child).
Matt Wilkinson said: “‘Psychodrama’is a trip into the world of acting in the context of a slasher whodunnit; all set against the backdrop of a stage adaptation of Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘Psycho’.
He added “We have decided to stage it now as an act of optimism in the face of Covid, the cancellation of the Edinburgh Fringe and the closure of theatres. The pandemic has deepened relationships in our local community among friends, neighbours and shopkeepers so it makes so much sense to put on a show in our local Kentish Town even though there’s no official theatre here! We’re indebted to Hezi Yechiel and his team at Never Forever for all their support and for giving us the run of their fantastic new space, and in so doing helping to kickstart a local community of performance artists in the future.”
The production will run at new venue, Never For Ever in Kentish Town, formerly Pizza East, with the venue following government guidelines which includes social distancing, temperature checks, face masks and track and trace.Psychodrama runs from 21 January 2021 until 31 January 2021 at Never For Ever, Kentish Town, London NW5
