Doctor Who actress Pearl Mackie and Jessica Raine (Call the Midwife) will star in Bubble at Nottingham Playhouse this October.,
Penned by award winning playwright James Graham, whose work includes Quiz, This House & Ink, the two-hander looks at love in the time of covid. As two people find ‘the one’ just before lockdown, they must decide whether to quarantine together or apart.
Best known for playing Bill Potts in BBC tv series Doctor Who, Mackie’s stage credits include Harold Pinter’s The Birthday Party alongside Tobie Jones, Stephen Mangan and Zoë Wanamaker; the National Theatre’s West End production of The Curious Incident of the Dog In The Night-Time; A Mad World, My Masters and The Crucible, both at the Theatre Royal; and, Crystal Springs at Park Theatre.
Jessica Raine has appeared on stage in Simon Stephens’s Harper Regan, David Hare’s Gethsemane, Mike Bartlett’s Earthquakes in London, all at the National Theatre. She won the Manchester Evening News Award for Best Supporting Actress in Punk Rock, but is best known for her TV work including BBC period drama Call The Midwife, Wolf Hall, Fortitude, Informer and most recently Baptise.
Bubble will be performed as part of Nottingham Playhouse’s Unlocked festival, championing live performances and future works. In addition to Bubble, the festival includes a concert led by West End stars Rosalie Craig, Sandra Marvin and Jodie Prenger, and Mark Gatiss reading ghost stories on Halloween.
Bubble is at Nottingham Playhouse from 23-24 October 2020.
