Glenn Close, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Judi Dench, Orlando Bloom, Paapa Essiedu and Andrew Scott are just some of the actors featured in a new book by esteemed photographer Simon Annand. His latest book Time To Act is an exploration of the vulnerable moments every actor experiences just before going on stage and captures them backstage often in the confined space of the dressing room.
To celebrate the launch of Time To Act a virtual exhibition showcasing a rotating selection of images from the book will launch on 5 October 2020.
Other actors to feature in the 230 backstage portraits include Gillian Anderson, Cate Blanchett, Sharon D Clarke, Jake Gyllenhaal, Lenny Henry, Anthony Hopkins, James Corden and Josette Simon
The publishers of Time to Act are donating £1 from the sale of every book to the Theatre Artists Fund.
Society of London Theatre chief executive Julian Bird said: “We are delighted that £1 from every sale of Simon Annand’s new book Time to Act will be donated to the Theatre Artists Fund.
“We must continue to support the freelance workforce who contribute so much to the theatre industry in this time of crisis.”
Annand has been shooting photographs backstage at West End theatres in London for 35 years. His first collection The Half was published in 2008 alongside an exhibition at the National Theatre which has subsequently been seen in various other theatres across the UK including Huddersfield’s Lawrence Batley Theatre in 2019.
