West End actress Mazz Murray will headline a concert production of Sunset Boulevard at Alexandra Palace Theatre in October.
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s acclaimed musical, based on Billy Wilder’s classic 1950 film, will feature Murray (Mamma Mia!, Chicago, We Will Rock You) as Norma Demond, alongside Kayi Ushe (The Book of Mormon) as Joe Gillis, Laura Baldwin (Waitress) as Betty Schaefer and Alex Bourne (Annie) as Max von Mayerling.
When the ‘socially distanced’ paths of Norma Desmond, faded silent movie star, and Joe Gillis, an impoverished yet dashingly handsome young screen writer, cross what ensues is a compelling story of romance and obsession.
With a celebrated book by Christopher Hampton, lyrics by Don Black and soaring melodies from Andrew Lloyd Webber, supported by a 24-piece orchestra, this production of Sunset Boulevard at Alexandra Palace promises to be a spectacular experience.
‘The cast also features Sharif Afifi (Hadestown) as Artie Green, Chris Howell (Hairspray) as Manfred/Sheldrake and David Shaw-Parker as Cecil B Demille (My Fair Lady).
Completing the company are Jack Harrison-Cooper, Jordan Lee Davies, Chloe Hart, Aimee Hodnett, Claudia Kariuki, Sejal Keshwala, Anelisa Lamola, Evie Rose Lane, Tom Partridge, Cameron Sharp and Bleu Woodward.
Sunset Boulevard will be staged twice as a concert performance on 25 October 2020, with performances at 15:00 and 18:30 at Alexandra Palace.
Audience capacity has been reduced to 300 people per show with full social distancing in place for cast and audience members.
The creative team includes director Alastair Knights, conductor Alex Parker and sound designer Paul Smith.
Tickets will go on sale a week today at midday.
