Tyrone Huntley and Declan Bennett will star in the concert version of Jesus Christ Superstar at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre this Summer.
The upcoming production will feature two sets of lead cast with Tyrone Huntley (Dreamgirls) and Ricardo Alfonso playing Judas; Declan Bennet and Pepe Nufrio playing Jesus; and, Anoushka Lucas and Maimuna Memon to play Mary.
All six actors reprise their respective roles from either the 2016 Open Air staging, 2019 Barbican staging or the North American touring production. To allow for flexibility in the cast, a performance schedule will not be announced.
Also confirmed are: David Thaxton (Pilate), Shaq Taylor (Herod), Ivan De Freitas (Caiaphas), Nathan Amzi (Annas), Phil King (Peter), Cedric Neal (Simon), and Genesis Lynea, Rosa O’Reilly, Elliotte Williams-N’Dure (Soul Singers).
Completing the cast are: Daniel Bailey, Dale Evans, Rosie Fletcher, Josh Hawkins, Stevie Hutchinson, Billy Nevers, Charlotte Riby, Tinovimbanashe Sibanda, Barnaby Thompson and Tara Young.
Staged as a concert performance with social distancing measures, each performance will be limited to 390 audience members and have a running time of 90-minutes with no interval.
Jesus Christ Superstar: The Concert is produced by William Village and Timothy Sheader for Regent’s Park Theatre Ltd by special arrangement with The Really Useful Group Limited.
William Village, Executive Director said: “The safety of our audience, performers and staff remains of paramount importance to us, and we will follow government guidance meticulously. Measures to be introduced at our entirely open air venue include: reduced capacity, distanced performers, enhanced cleaning, one-way systems, mandatory face coverings, temperature screening, paperless and cashless systems and multiple hand sanitiser stations.”
Jesus Christ Superstar: The Concert will run for six-weeks from 14 August 2020 until 27 September 2020 at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, London.
