Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic production of CATS will stream for free on YouTube from Friday 15 May 2020.
Based on TS Elliot’s book of poems, this classic musical about a tribe of cats and the night they choose one particular feline to ascend to another life is one of the most successful musicals of all time. The London and Broadway productions ran for 21 and 18 years respectively, picking up Olivier and Tony Awards.
Filmed in 1998, this production features Britain’s grand dame of musical theatre, Elaine Paige, singing the classic song ‘Memory’. Also featuring in the production are Ken Page, John Partridge, Jacob Brent, Jason Gardiner and Sir John Mills.
As an added bonus, Andrew Lloyd Webber will give a live commentary on the production talking about the history of the production, how it came to be and production choices made at the time.
The show is the final in a series of Andrew Lloyd Webber works that are being streamed for free online whilst UK theatres remain closed. Productions already streamed include The Phantom of The Opera 25th Anniversary Concert production; Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat with Donny Osmond; the Australian production of Love Never Dies; Jesus Christ Superstar starring Tim Minchin and Mel C; and By Jeeves.
