South London theatre company Southwark Playhouse joins the growing list of theatre makers releasing full-length productions and exclusive video content free to watch online.
The new digital offering launches with Wasted, a fantastically witty and camp rock musical about the Brontë siblings. Filmed in 2018, this mischievous new spin on the Brontë’s opened to ★★★★ reviews all-round. Directed by Adam Lenson with music by Christopher Ash and book and lyrics by Carl Miller, the show features Siobhan Athwal, Natasha J. Barnes, Matthew Jacobs Morgan and Molly Lynch.
The second full length piece is Anna Girvan’s riotously funny production of Twelfth Night. Shakespeare’s classic comedy of love and identity is transported to a music festival in this hit 2019 production.
The third piece is from Southwark’s vaults, described as “One of the most accomplished pieces of debut playwriting that I’ve seen in a long time.” Evening Standard) is Bound by Jesse Briton. The play follows the fortunes of six trawlermen from Devon as they embark on one final voyage.
Philip Ridley’s The Beast Will Rise monologues – from the world premiere of The Beast of Blue Yonder which was due to open at the beginning of April has also been uploaded to the theatre’s website and YouTube Channel.
Southwark Playhouse aims to upload new content every two weeks whilst the venue remains closed.
