Disney have announced lead casting for the London premiere of Frozen The Musical
Stephanie McKeon will play Anna alongside Samantha Barks, who was previously confirmed to play Elsa, in the highly anticipated new musical.
A seasoned West End performer Barks most recently starred in the Broadway production of Pretty Woman: The Musical. McKeon’s credits include Close to You – Bacharach Reimagined, The Commitments and Beautiful – The Carole King Musical.
Based on the Oscar winning Disney animated film, Frozen The Musical centres on two sisters pulled apart by a mysterious secret. As one struggles to find her voice and harness her magical powers, the other embarks on an epic adventure to bring her family together once and for all.
The show has music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, a book by Jennifer Lee and is directed by Michael Grandage. The highly anticipated musical opened on Broadway in March 2018 where it was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Musical.
Michael Grandage said: ” Frozen tells the story of two extraordinary women and we’re thrilled to have found Samantha and Stephanie who will bring their incredible talent to the roles of Elsa and Anna, allowing us to create a production of Frozen especially for London. Now more than ever, we’re looking forward to the day we can all get together in a rehearsal room to bring their story to the stage.”
The London production of Frozen The Musical is due to open the newly renovated Theatre Royal Drury Lane on 30 October 2020. The theatre has been undergoing a £60-million renovation since 42nd Street closed in January 2019. The show recently extended its run at Drury Lane and is now booking until May 2021.
In addition to the West End production, the musical recently began a North America tour with further productions set to open in Australia, Japan and Hamburg.
