La Cage aux Follies [The PLay]

Park Theatre / Casting announced for ‘La Cage aux Folles [The Play]’

Casting has been announced for Simon Callow’s English translation of La Cage aux Folles [The Play] at the Park Theatre in London. Michael Matus (Richard III – National Theatre, King Lear – The Duke of York’s Theatre) and Paul Hunter (Founder of Told by an Idiot) will lead the cast as Georges and Albin, the roles famously portrayed by Robin Williams and Nathan Lane in the Hollywood remake The Bird Cage. The cast is completed by Sarah Lam, Syrus Lowe, Peter Straker, Mark Cameron, Arthur Hughes, Simon Hepworth, Louise Bangay, Georgina Ambrey and William Nelson. The play is directed by Park Theatre’s Artistic Director, Jez Bond, with set & costume by Tim Shortall, lighting design by Rick Fisher, and sound design by Yvonne Gilbert. Jean Poiret’s seminal classic has spawned four blockbuster films including The Birdcage, and a Tony & Olivier Award-winning musical.  The original 1983 Broadway musical opened in London in 1986 and was last revived in the West End in 2008.

What’s ‘La Cage aux Folles [The Play]’ about?

La Cage aux Folles centres on night club owner Georges and his drag artiste partner Albin, who create spectacular shows in St. Tropez. But when Georges’ son Laurent announces his engagement to the daughter of a notoriously right-wing politician determined to bring the curtain down on the town’s vibrant nightlife, Georges and Albin must conceal their true nature for the sake of their son.

Performance Dates

La Cage aux Folles [The Play] runs from 12 February 2020 until 21 March 2020 at Park Theatre, London.
