Coronation Street‘s Mark Moraghan and Lucy O’Byrne (The Voice) will join the cast of Little Miss Sunshine which begins a UK tour at Churchill Theatre, Bromley on 16 May 2019.

Moraghan will play Grandpa, the role that won Alan Arkin an Academy award with O’Byrne playing Sheryl, the matriarch of the eccentric Hoover family.

O’Byrne shot to fame on The Voice (BBC) in 2015 and has since starred as Fantine in Les Misérables (West End),  Eva Peron in Evita (UK tour) and Maria in The Sound of Music (UK tour).

Based on Michael Arndt’s Academy Award-winning film of the same name, Little Miss Sunshine is a musical comedy by Stephen Sondheim collaborator James Lapine and his Tony Award-winning team.

The show tells the story of a young girl who has her heart set on winning the Little Miss Sunshine beauty contest. When an invitation to compete in the beauty contest comes out of the blue, the Hoover family, and all their troubles set out on the 800-mile journey from New Mexico to California in their beat-up yellow VW camper van.

An uplifting and inventive musical , the show received its UK premiere at the Arcola Theatre in spring 2019.

The UK tour will open at Churchill Theatre, Bromley (16 – 18 May), followed by dates in Ipswich, Salford, York, Bradford, Glasgow, Sheffield, Birmingham, Cantebury, Dublin, Oxford, Malvern, Leicester, Cardiff, Aberdeen, Exeter and Eastbourne.
