The Prince of Egypt – a new musical based on the celebrated Dreamworks animated film will open at London’s historic Dominion Theatre in February 2020.
The show will be brought to the stage by a world class creative team including music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (Wicked) story by Philip LaZebnik (Mulan and Pocahontas), direction by Scott Schwartz (The Hunchback of Notre Dame) and choreography by Sean Cheesman (So You Think You Can Dance).
The musical features 10 new songs written by Stephen Schwartz, together with 5 of his acclaimed songs from the DreamWorks Animation film, including Deliver Us, All I Ever Wanted, Through Heaven’s Eyes and the Academy Award®-winning When You Believe.
The Prince of Egypt follows two young men, raised as brothers in a kingdom of privilege, who are suddenly divided by a secret past. One must rule as Pharaoh, the other must rise up and free his true people; both face a destiny that will change history forever.
The musical received its premiere at TheatreWorks Silicon Valley and Fredericia Teater Denmark; the UK premiere will marking the first major production of the show.
Casting for The Prince of Egypt in London is yet to be announced.
The Prince of Egypt is set to run for an initial 32-weeks previewing from 5 February 2020 with opening night on 25 February 2020 at the Dominion Theatre.
