Classic Spring’s West End production of The Importance of Being Earnest will be broadcast live from the West End to over 440 cinemas across the UK and Ireland on Tuesday 9 October 2018.
Widely considered one of the funniest plays in English, Wilde’s classic comedy of false identities and true love is a superb satire of Victorian manners.
The production stars Sophie Thompson (Coronation Street, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows), Fiona Button (The Split), Pippa Nixon (Grantchester), Stella Gonet (The House of Elliott) and Jeremy Swift (Downton Abbey).
Described by the critics as “a comic and energetic delight” (Sunday Times ****), “exceptionally funny” (Daily Express ****) and “absolutely hilarious” (WhatsOnStage *****), Michael Fentiman’s production breathes fresh life into one of the most beautifully crafted comedies of all time.
The Importance of Being Earnest is the fourth and final production in Classic Spring’s year-long celebration of Wilde at the Vaudeville Theatre, London.
The Oscar Wilde season has included acclaimed performances from luminaries such as Jennifer Saunders, Edward & Freddie Fox and Anne Reid.
Hugely enjoyed by audiences nationwide, the season will return to cinemas next year with encore screenings of the first three productions beginning with A Woman of No Importance on 23 January, followed by Lady Windermere’s Fan on 27 February and An Ideal Husband on 27 March 2019.
The Importance of Being Earnest is booking until 20 October 2018 at the Vaudeville Theatre, London
