Royal & Derngate | New stage adaptation of Alice Sebold’s The Lovely Bones

A new stage adaptation of Alice Sebold’s best-selling novel The Lovely Bones will premiere at the Royal & Derngate in Northampton this September.

Alice Sebold’s coming-of-age tale captured the hearts of readers throughout the world when it was first published in 2002. An unforgettable story about life after loss, The Lovely Bones tells the story of Susie Salmon, a little girl who can only observe while her family copes with the grief of her death. Desperate to help them, there might be a way for her to reach them.

Charlotte Beaumont, best known for playing Chloe Latimer in TV series Broadchurch, will play the part of Susie Salmon, her father Jack will be played by Jack Sandle (War Horse, National Theatre), Emily Bevan (The Haunting of Hill House, Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse) will play Susie’s mother Abigail, with Ayoola Smart (The Taming of the Shrew, Shakespeare’s Globe) playing sister Lindsay.

The cast is completed by Kevin Dunphy, Pete Ashmore, Bhawna Bhawsar, Susan Bovell, Natasha Cottriall and Karan Gill.

The Lovely Bones is adapted by playwright Bryony Lavery (Frozen, Treasure Island), with direction by Coram Boy (National Theatre and Broadway) director Melly Still.

The production is designed by Ana Inés Jabares-Pita, with lighting design by Matt Haskins, sound design by Helen Skiera and movement direction by Mike Ashcroft.

The Lovely Bones will play Royal & Derngate in Northampton from 1 September 2018 until 22 September 2018, followed by Everyman Liverpool (25 September – 6 October 2018), Northern Stage Newcastle (9 October – 20 October 2018), Birmingham Repertory Theatre (30 October – 10 November 2018) and New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich (13 November – 17 November 2018).
