EastEnders’ Bonnie Langford will join the West End cast of 42nd Street from September.
Langford takes up the role of leading lady Dorothy Brock from 3 September and will stay with the production until the final performance in January 2019.
Grammy Award winner Sheena Easton played the role when it opened in April 2017 with singer and actress Lulu currently playing the part.
Langford made her West End debut at the tender age of seven in Gone With The Wind at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, the following year she played ‘Baby June’ in Gypsy opposite Angela Lansbury at the Piccadilly Theatre, making such an impact that the producers took her to America with the show for a highly successful run on Broadway.
Her numerous West End credits include the original production of Cats (The Gillian Lynne Theatre), The Pirates Of Penzance (Drury Lane and London Palladium); Peter Pan – The Musical (Aldwych Theatre); Me And My Girl (Adelphi Theatre); Sweet Charity (Victoria Palace Theatre); Spamalot (Harold Pinter and Playhouse Theatres); Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (Savoy Theatre) and Chicago (West End and on Broadway).
The West End revival of 42nd Street opened to spectacular reviews on 4 April 2017 and will have played over 700 performances when it concludes on 5 January 2019 at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. As previously announced the theatre will undergo an extensive multi-million-pound refurbishment which is expected to take a minimum of 18 months.
42nd Street is a spectacular homage to the world of musical theatre with an all-singing, high-kicking cast of over 50 and some of the greatest songs ever written, such as ‘We’re In The Money’, ‘Lullaby of Broadway’, ‘Shuffle Off To Buffalo’, ‘Dames’, ‘I Only Have Eyes For You’, and ‘42nd Street’.
42nd Street is booking until 5 January 2019 at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane.
