The Jamie Lloyd Company presents The Room / Victoria Station / Family Voices as part of its extraordinary season of one-act plays by Harold Pinter at the Harold Pinter Theatre.

Celebrating the legacy of one of the “most influential, provocative and poetic dramatist of his generation” (The Guardian), this triple bill of plays is directed by Pinter’s colleague and friend, Patrick Marber.

Pinter’s first play, The Room, is a darkly funny and unexpectedly peculiar play from 1957 that features an all-too-familiar and alarmingly topical brand of English xenophobia. In the comical Victoria Station and the reflective Family Voices, isolated voices attempt to communicate, but can we ever truly express the depths of our feelings?

The Room / Victoria Station / Family Voices is booking from 13 December 2018 until 26 January 2018 at the Harold Pinter Theatre.

WHAT’S THE STORY?

The Room

Rose and Bert rent a room in a run-down boarding house; the outside is terrifying and unknown. Rose never goes out, Bert only goes to drive his van with furious aggression.

Who are the young couple seeking lodgings and why does the black man elicit such rage in Bert? Alternatingly between the mundane and the terrifying, The Room is an experience with a powerful climax.

Victoria Station
‘Brilliantly funny’ Daily Telegraph words and language fail to unite the characters of Victoria Station in any form of understanding.

A mini-cab drivers’ controller attempts to instruct Driver 274, Mr Bates, to pick up a client from Victoria Station. But Mr Bates declines to move, he’s not quite sure where he is, and there might be a problem with his current fare. He’s quite possibly dead!

Family Voices

Family Voices is about the delight of growing up and discovering yourself. A temporary exhilaration, of course, one that declines into regret as the years go by.

Through a series of letters, Family Voices follows a mother, son and dead husband who continually have trouble communicating with each other, resulting in more intense attempts at communication that only serve to make the situation more absurd.
