West End actress Jenna Russell is among the casting announcements for the Young Vic’s forthcoming production of Fun Home.
Most recently seen in the long running BBC1 soap EastEnders, Russell’s extensive theatre credits include Sondheim musicals, Merrily We Roll Along (Menier Chocolate Factory / Pinter Theatre); Into The Woods (Regents Park/Donmar Warehouse) and Sunday in the Park With George (Wyndhams / Studio 54 Broadway).
Russell’s other theatre roles include Doctor Faustus (Duke of York’s Theatre), Grey Garden (Southwark Playhouse), Di and Viv and Rose (Vaudeville theatre), Urinetown (Apollo and St James Theatre), Mr Burns (Almeida) and Seasons Greetings (National Theatre). Jenna will play the role of Helen.
A five-time Tony award winning musical, Fun Home is based on Alison Bechdel’s graphic novel, and explores the memories of her uniquely complicated family at three different stages in her life. The production has music by Jeanine Tesori (Titanic, book and lyrics by Lisa Kron and will be directed by Sam Gold.
Casting announcements also include Kaisa Hammarlund As You Like It (Southwark Playhouse) as Alison; Eleanor Kane Assassins (Rose Bruford) as Medium Alison; Ashley Samuels Motown the Musical, The Book of Mormon (West End) as Roy, Mark and Jeremy; Cherrelle Skeete Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (Palace Theatre) as Joan and Zubin Varla War Horse (National Theatre) as Bruce, Alison’s father.
Casting for Small Alison, John and Christian will be confirmed at a later date.
The highly anticipate production is the final show in David Lan’s last season as Artistic Director of the Young Vic.
Fun Home will run from 18 June 2018 until 1 September 2018 at the Young Vic Theatre, London.
