Rhys Ifans has withdrawn from the Old Vic’s forthcoming production of Mood Music, citing family reasons.
Mood Music is a new play by Joe Penhall (Sunny Afternoon, Blue/Orange) which looks at the dark side of the music industry.
Ifans was due to play a record producer who goes to battle with a group of lawyers over who owns a hit song.
The role will now be played by Ben Chaplin, whose theatre credits include Consent (National Theatre), The Glass Menagerie (Donmar Warehouse) and Farewell to Theatre (Hampstead Theatre).
The cast also includes Seána Kerslake, Pip Carter, Kurt Egyiawan, Jemma Redgrave and Neil Stuke.
The production is directed by Roger Mitchell (Marya, The Old Vic) with set design by Hildegary Bechtler, costumes by Dinah Collin, compositions by David Arnold, lighting by Rick Fisher, and sound by John Leonard.
Mood Music runs from 21 April 2018 until 16 June 2018 at the Old Vic Theatre, London.
