Samuel Barnett & Declan Bennett in Kiss of the Spider Woman, London

Dirk Gently’s Samuel Barnett to star in Kiss of the Spider Woman

Samuel Barnett, star of the Netflix series Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, will tread the boards of London’s Menier Chocolate Factory this Spring.

Barnett will co-star with Declan Bennett in a new adaptation of Manuel Puig’s Kiss of the Spider Woman. A provocative tale of love, victimisation, fantasy and the friendship that develops between two strikingly different men imprisoned together in a Latin American jail.

The Netflix star is an original cast member of Alan Bennett’s play The History Boys, and has performed in Tony-award-winning productions of Twelfth Night and Richard III (Globe / West End / Broadway) and the Olivier-nominated Dealer’s Choice (Chocolate Factory and Trafalgar Studios).

Bennett is best known for playing Jesus in the award winning revival of Tim Rice & Andrew LLoyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar at the Open Air Theatre and Guy in the West End production of Tony Award winning musical Once. Fans of EastEnders will recognise him from his series regular role of Charlie Cotton.

The new adaptation is by José Rivera (The Motorcycle Diaries) and Allan Baker and will be directed by Laurie Sansom, former Artistic Director of the National Theatre of Scotland.
