Sara Kestelman will star in Alan Bennett’s The Lady in The Van at Theatre Royal Bath.
Olivier Award winner Sara Kestelman will play Bennett’s beloved character Miss Mary Shepherd, a homeless woman who in 1974 temporarily moved her clapped out van into his front garden; she stayed for 15 years.
Kestelman extensive stage credits include Filthy Business and The Intelligent Homosexual’s Guide to Capitalism and Socialism with a Key to the Scriptures at Hampstead Theatre and her Olivier Award-winning role as Fraulein Schneider in Cabaret (Donmar Warehouse).
Kestelman will be joined by Sam Alexander (One Man Two Guvnors) as Alan Bennett, William Gaunt (Sergeant Cork) as Underwood and James Northcote (A United Kingdom, The Imitation Game) who will share the role of Alan Bennett.
The full cast will also include Emma Amos, Lia Burge, Paul Hickey, Gabrielle Lloyd, David Shaw Parker, Steve Simmonds and Cat Simmons.
Directed by Jonathan Church, the show will complete his first summer season as Artistic Director of Theatre Royal Bath.
Bennett’s classic tale was most recently adapted to film starring Maggie Smith and Alex Jennings.
The Lady in the Van will run from 17 August 2017 until 2 September 2017 at Theatre Royal Bath.
