Fun Home confirmed for Young Vic 2017/18 season

The Young Vic announces 2017/2018 new season including the UK premiere of Tony award-winning musical Fun Home.

Highlights from the 2017/2018 season include:

  • the UK premiere of Tony award-winning musical Fun Home
  • the world premiere of 2 plays, The Jungle and The Inheritance
  • a revival of Tarell Alvin McCraney’s The Brothers Size.
  • Sienna Miller and Jack O’Connell in Cat on A Hot Tin Roof

Sienna Miller and Jack O’Connell will  lead the cast in Tennessee Williams’ Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, directed by Benedict Andrews. The production will open at the Apollo Theatre in the West End in July.

Josette Bushell-Mingo mixes story and song as she connects her own life with the great singer; Nina – a story about me and Nina Simone will run from 19-29 July in the Maria Theatre.

Billy Piper revives her award winning performance in Yerma, a woman driven to the unthinkable by her desperate desire to have a child. Yerma runs from 26 July 2017 until 31 August 2017 in Main House.

Juliet Stevenson and director Natalie Abrahami reunite for a revival of Arthur Kopit’s Wings; a powerful drama about a female aviator struggling to find her voice after a stroke. Wings plays from 14 September 2017 until 4 november 2017 in the Main House.

Josh Roche will direct My Name is Rachel Corrie –  a searing play adapted from the diaries of American peace activist killed in Israel in 2003. The show will run from 29 September until 29  October in the Clare Theatre.

Ramin Gray and David Grieg’s acclaimed production of The Suppliant Women will run from 13 November 2017 until 25 November 2017 in the Main House.  Written 2,500 years ago, one of the worlds oldest plays continues to speak to us with startling resonance.

Genesis Award winner Nancy Medina directs Yellowman – a powerful story about the legacy of Southern black poverty and the impact of skin tone on simmering racial tension. Yellowman runs from 22 November until 2 December 2017 in the Clare Theatre.

The world premiere of The Jungle by Joe Murphy and Joe Robertson, is a thought provoking new play about loss, fear, commuity and the impacts of do-gooders in a crisis. Set in the squalid refugee  camp in Calaie the production is directed by Stephen Daldry and Justin Martin.  The Jungle runs from 7 December 2017 – 6 January 2018 in the Main House.

A revival of The Brothers Size, the award-winning debut play by Oscar-winning writer of Moonlight Tarell Alvin McCraney will run from 19 January 2018 until 14 February 2018 in the Main House.

The world premiere of Matthew Lopez’s The Inheritance will run from 2 March 2018 until 5 May 2018 in the Main House. The play in two parts is a panoramic view of gay life in New York City today, a generation after the AIDS crisis.

Jeanine Tesori and Lisa Kron’s Tony award winning musical Fun Home will run from 18 June 2018 until 1 September 2018 in the Main House. The musical adaptation of Alison Bechdel’s graphic novel about growing up gay in a close complicated family is widely considered ground-breaking.
