Robert Lindsay to kick start Hampstead Theatre’s Autumn Season

Hampstead Theatre announce the 2017 Autumn Season with 2 world premieres and a revival of Simon Gray’s Cell Mates .

“The first time I held a prism and turned it to the light it did what the Impressionists struggled a lifetime to do; it embraced the light, split the light; it seemed to understand the very secret of light”

On 6 September the world premiere of Prism, written and directed by Terry Johnson (Dead Funny, Mrs Henderson Presents) hits the main stage of Hampstead Theatre and stars Robert Lindsay and Claire Skinner. The delightfully witty and poignant play is based on the extraordinary life of double Oscar-winning cinematic master Jack Cardiff; ‘the man who made women look beautiful’.

Other wonderful plays in store include the world premiere of Nicolas Wright’s dark hilarity and melancholy new play The Slaves of Solitude, adapted from the novel by Patrick Hamilton, which runs from 20 October 2017 until  25 November 2017. Directed by Jonathan Kent, this much-loved story focuses on an improbable heroine in wartime Britain.

To follow on the main stage and unperformed since 1995 is Cell Mates by Simon Gray. This absorbing drama and deftly funny play is about George Blake, one of Britain’s most notorious double agents and set in Wormwood Scrubs Prison, London, 1961. Cell Mates runs from the 30 November 2017 – 20 January 2018.

Luke Barnes’s new play No One Will Tell Me How To Start A Revolution (21 September 2017 until 21 October 2017), will be performing downstairs in the Hampstead’s intimate studio theatre. This captivating and lively play directed by Anna Ledwich is a poignant portrait of the pressures of being a teenager and the fight for acceptance – irrespective of the cards you’ve been dealt.

Also, check out the new piece by Roy Williams called The Firm (27 October 2017 until  25 November 2018).
