Shakespeare’s Globe announce casting for Lions and Tigers

Casting has been announced for the world premiere Tanika Gupta’s Lions and Tigers at Shakespeare’s Globe.

The cast features Coronation Street’s Sudha Bhuchar, Bend It Like Beckham’s Raj Bajaj and Tony Jayawardena, and newcomer Shubham Saraf who will play Dinesh.

Esh Alladi, Shalini Peiris, Jaz Deol, Jonathan Keeble and Adam Best complete the cast.

Based on the true story of playwright Tanika Gupta’s great uncle and freedom fighter Dinesh Gupta, Lions and Tigers is an authentic story of his emotional and political awakening, culminating in actions that shook the foundations of the British Empire. Her new play challenges our assumptions about Indian independence and offers new insights into the battles between the British lions and the Bengal tigers.

Lions and Tigers runs from 23 August 2017 until 16 September 2017 in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse as part of Shakespeare’s Globe’s Festival of Independence.
