Jay McGuiness & Kimberley Walsh to star in ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ musical

Jay McGuiness & Kimberley Walsh will reunite on stage in the new musical stage adaptation of the Tom Hanks & Meg Ryan film Sleepless in Seattle.

The show, SLEEPLESS, A Musical Romance, returns to the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre in March following three successful pre-view performances earlier in the year.

The former pop stars will play Sam and Annie alongside three young actors – Theo Collis, Mikey Colville and Jack Reynolds – who will share the role of Jonah.

McGuiness & Walsh previously starred in another Tom Hanks film-to stage adaptation Big The Musical which ran at the Dominion Theatre in the West End last year. Since leaving their respective bands – Jay in The Wanted and Kimberley in Girls Aloud – they pair have began successful musical theatre careers. Kimberley playing Princess Fiona in Shrek The Musical and Jovie in Elf the Musical; and, Jay more recently with  Rip It Up – The 60’s and BIG The Musical.

The cast will also feature Daniel Casey (DS Gavin Troy in the first six seasons of Midsomer Murders) and Harriet Thorpe (The Brittas Empire, Absolutely Fabulous) as Walter and Eleanor, alongside Tania Mathurin (Come From Away, The Book of Mormon) as Becky and Jake Sharp (School of Rock) as Rob.

Rounding out the cast are Charlie Bull, Colin Burnicle, Christie-Lee Crosson, Laura Darton, Leanne Garretty, Matt Holland, Ross McLaren, Gary Murphy, Dominique Planter, Annie Wensak and Benjamin Wong.

SLEEPLESS is written by Michael Burdette with music and lyrics by new British writers Robert Scott and Brendan Cull. The jazz-inspired score is played by a 12 piece orchestra.

The musical tells the heart-warming tale of Sam, who moves to Seattle with his eight year-old son, Jonah, following the tragic death of his wife. When Jonah phones a radio show, Sam is forced to talk about his broken heart and sleepless nights live on air, and he suddenly finds himself one of the most sought after single men in America. Can Jonah bring the two together on the top deck of the Empire State Building on, appropriately, Valentines Day?

SLEEPLESS is directed by Morgan Young (White ChristmasElfBig), with set design by Morgan Large, costume design by Sue Simmerling, lighting by Ken Billington, video design by Ian William Galloway, orchestrations and arrangements by Larry Blank, musical supervision by Stuart Morley, musical direction by Chris Walker, wig and hair design by Richard Mawbey and casting by Sarah Bird CDG and Michael Donovan CSA.

SLEEPLESS, A Musical Romance is booking from 21 March 2020 until 3 May 2020 at Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre, London.
