Nathan Lane attends the UK premiere of The Frogs at the Jermyn Street Theatre in London’s West End
Lane extensively revised Stephen Sondheim’s The Frogs in 2004 and it was this Broadway production which premiered last night.
Lane who is in London for the forthcoming production of Angels in America at the National Theatre had been in constant touch with director/producer Grace Wessels, and sent the London team additional material he wrote and not seen in the Broadway version of the show.
The Frogs was originally performed in 1974 in Yale University’s gymnasium’s swimming pool, featuring members of the Yale swimming team. Meryl Streep and Sigourney Weaver were among its ensemble.This latest version includes seven additional Stephen Sondheim songs.
Nathan will play McCarthyist lawyer Roy Cohn in the two-part Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes which also stars Denise Gough, Andrew Garfield and Russel Tovey.
