Marcia Gay Harden to star in Sweet Bird of Youth

Marcia Gay Harden will star in Tennessee Williams’ Sweet Bird of Youth at Chichester Festival Theatre.

The Oscar and Tony Award winning actress will make her UK theatre debut in Sweet Bird of Youth, Tennessee Williams most searing and personal play. The play is a highlight of Daniel Evans first season as Artistic Director of Chichester Festival Theatre.

The Fifty Shades of Grey actress will star opposite Brian J Smith, who is currently reprising his Tony-nominated Broadway role as the Gentleman Caller in Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie in the West End.

A portrayal of the degradation of American values and the corrosive lure of celebrity, Sweet Bird of Youth examines failed ambition, lost youth and love, and the corruption and bigotry that lurks beneath the American dream.

Marcia’s theatrical work includes her acclaimed Broadway debut in Angels in America and God of Carnage for which she won the Tony Award. Her film work includes Miller’s Crossing, Pollock, Mystic River and the Fifty Shades Trilogy, while television includes Law and Order: SUV and Code Black.

The production will be directed by Jonathan Church with design by Anthony Ward, lighting by Mark Henderson, music by Debbie Wiseman and sound by Paul Groothuis.

Sweet Bird of Youth will run from 2 June 2017 until 24 June 2017 at Chichester Festival Theatre.
