Dame Imelda Staunton is a five-time Olivier Award winner, BAFTA Award winner and Oscar nominated actor with a career spanning four decades on the stage and screen.

Imelda Staunton recently starred in Mrs Warren’s Profession at the Garrick Theatre in London, directed by Dominic Cooke, playing Mrs Kitty Warren.

Imelda also returned to the London stage in Summer 2024 as Dolly Gallagher Levi in the major West End revival of Hello, Dolly!, reuniting her with director Dominic Cook following their acclaimed production of Stephen Sondheim’s Follies at the National Theatre. She won her fifth Olivier Award, Best Actress in a Musical for her performance as Dolly.

On screen Imelda is known for her portrayal of the Queen in the final two-seasons of Netflix drama The Crown, Dolores Umbridge in two of the Harry Potter films, the title role in Vera Drake, a very memorable part in British comedy-drama Pride, the Hollywood blockbuster film Maleficent starring Angelina Jolie, the Hitchcock HBO television movie The Girl, TV drama Cranford and the films Paddington in Peru, Downton Abbey 1 and 2

Imelda’s theatre credits include Mama Rose in the West End revival and Broadway transfer of Gypsy, Martha in Edward Albee’s Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning play Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (West End) alongside Conleth Hill, Imogen Poots and Luke Treadaway; Mrs Lovett in Sweeney Todd (Adelphi Theatre/Chichester) alongside Michael Ball; and Sally in Follies at the National Theatre..

Her other theatre roles include Good People (Hampstead Theatre/Noel Coward Theatre), A Delicate Balance at the Almeida Theatre, Guys and Dolls and A Chorus of Disapproval at the National Theatre, The Wizard of Oz for the RSC and Into the Woods at the Phoenix Theatre.
