Disney’s Newsies set for UK screens

Alan Menken’s Tony Award-winning musical Newsies is to be streamed to UK cinemas for the first time.

Set in New York City at the run of the century, Disney’s musical stars Jeremy Jordan as a charismatic newsboy who leads a group of newsies in a rebellion against greedy publishers.

Based on the 1992 film starring Christian Bale, which in turn was inspired by the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899, Newsies The Musical has music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman, and a book by Harvey Fierstein. The musical premiered at the Paper Mill Playhouse in 2011 and made its Broadway debut in 2012 where it ran for 1005 performances.

Disney’s Newsies will be broadcast into cinemas on Sunday 19 February 2017, tickets are on sale now.
