Full casting has been announced for the upcoming revival of Shopping and Fucking at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre.
Alex Arnold (Crushed Shells & Mud) will star as Robbie, Ashley McGuire (Our Country’s Good) will play Brian, David Moorst (First Light) will play Gary, Sam Spruell (Clybourne Park) will play Mark and Sophie Wu (Punk Rock) will play Lulu.
Twenty years after it it first premiered at the Royal Court Theatre, Lyric Artistic Director Sean Holmes directs this rarely staged contemporary British drama. With a raw mixture of black humour and bleak philosophy, the play follows three disconnected young adults whose lives have been reduced to a series of transactions in an emotionally shrink wrapped world. A place where Shopping is sexy and Fucking is a job.
Ravenhill’s first play, it was considered highly provocative at the time with some people finding the sexually violent content shocking.
Shopping and Fucking runs 7 October 2016 until 4 November 2016 at the Lyric Hammersmith.
