Scarlett Strallen is to star in a new production of romantic muscial She Loves Me at the Menier Chocolate Factory.
Based on Miklos Laszlo’s play Parfumerie, Strallen will play Amalia, a sales girl in a parfumier who doesn’t realise her male penpal is closer than she thinks.
Premiering on Broadway in 1963, the musical was last staged in London in 1994 with Ruthie Henshall playing Amalia and John Gordon Sinclair as her love interest.
Matthew White is set to direct with set and costume by Paul Farnsworth, lighting by Paul Pyant, sound by Greg Clarke and orchestrations by Jason Carr. The show has music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick and book by Joe Masteroff.
Strallen’s numerous theatre credits include Singin’ in the Rain (Palace Theatre), A Chorus Line (London Palladium), The Music Man (Chichester), Passion (Donmar Warehouse), Mary Poppins (West End/Broadway), The Witches of Eastwick (Theatre Royal Drury Lane) and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (London Palladium).
She Loves Me will run from 25 November 2016 until 5 March 2017 at the Menier Chocolate Factory.
