Moby Dick returns to the stage

Twenty -four years after it crashed in the West End, Moby Dick! The Musical is to receive its first UK revival at the Union Theatre.

Directed by Andrew Wright, the show is set in a school that is staging a musical version of Moby Dick.

Wright said he had seen the original production in 1991 and “fell in love with its anarchic charm and sheer exuberance”.

Moby Dick! The Musical originally ran in Oxford in 1991, before transferring to the West End in 1992; produced by Cameron Mackintosh the show received poor reviews and lasted four months.

The show will have musical direction by Lee Freeman, set design by Anna Kelsey, costumes by Ryan Walklett, lighting by Tim Deiling and sound by James Nicholson.

Audience members who turn up in school uniform will get onstage seats and “play a part” in the production.

Moby Dick! The Musical runs from 12 October 2016 until 12 November 2016 at the Union Theatre.
