EastEnders actress Jessie Wallace will join the UK tour of Chicago as Mama Morton later this year.
Wallace, best known for playing Kat Slater in EastEnders replaces X Factor winner Sam Bailey from 15 August 2016 in Nottingham.
The remaining leg of the tour will include Belfast, Liverpool, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Bromley, Woking, Canterbury, Norwich, Leeds, Sunderland and Birmingham.
The production features Hayley Tamaddon as Roxie Hart, Sophie Carmen-Jones as Velma Kelly, Neil Ditt as Amos Hart, AD Richardson as Mary Sunshine and fellow EastEnders alumnus John Partridge who plays Billy Flyn.
Based on real life events from the 1920s, Chicago follows nightclub singer Roxie Hart, double-murderess Velma Kelly and smooth talking lawyer Billy Flynn as they fight to keep Hart off death row after she shoots her lover.
The hit musical received it’s West End premiere at the Cambridge Theatre in 1979 running for 600 performances, however the 1997 West End revival starring Ute Lemper, Ruthie Henshall, Nigel Planer, Henry Goodma ran for almost 15 years.
With a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, the musical features iconic songs such as “All That Jazz”, “Razzle Dazzle” and “Cell Block Tango”.
Chicago is currently touring throughout the UK until 31 December 2016.
