Angela Lansbury confirmed for Broadway show

Angela Lansbury confirms Broadway return in the 2016-17 season.

The 90-year-old actress and Broadway icon will star in a revival of Enid Bagnold’s 1955 play The Chalked Garden in the 2016-17 season.

Produced by Andrew Bryan and Scott Rudin, the Chalked Garden tells the story of a wealthy eccentric who lives with her troubled granddaughter.

She soon hires a mysterious woman who quickly proves a match for her employer and a positive influence on her wayward granddaughter.

The veteran actress has enjoyed a prestigious career on the stage, winning four Tony awards as a lead actress in a musical, including roles in Gypsy in 1975 and Sweeney Todd in 1979.

Lansbury won a fifth Tony award in 2007 for featured actress in a play in Noel Coward’s Blithe Spirit, which also won Lansbury her first ever Olivier Award last year at the age of 89 when she reprised the role of Madame Arcati for its subsequent production in London.

Lansbury’s most recent Broadway appearance was in Gore Vidal’s 2012 production of The Best Man.

In addition to her work on the stage, Lansbury is best known for long running television series Murder, She Wrote, and films The Manchurian Candidate and Bedknobs and Broomsticks.
