Jessica Brown Findlay and Freddie Fox have been nominated for 2015 Ian Charleson Awards.
Established to honour the great actor Ian Charleson, the awards identify and celebrate the best classical stage performances in the UK by an actor under 30.
Fox was nominated for his Romeo in Romeo and Juliet at Sheffield Crucible and Brown Findlay for Electra in The Oresteia at the Almeida.
Also nominated are Elliot Barnes-Worrell for Man & Superman at the National, Jessica Baglow for Pericles at The Globe and Jack Colgrave Hirst for The Winter’s Tale at the Garrick.
The awards are run jointly by the Sunday Times newspaper and the National Theatre with the winner announced at an awards lunch 24 June 2016 at the National Theatre, alongside two other prizes for second and third place.
Previous award winners include Susannah Fielding (Portia in The Merchant of Venice, Almeida, 2014), Jack Lowden (Oswald in Ghosts, Almeida Theatre, 2013), Rebecca Hall (Mrs Warren’s Profession, Strand Theatre, 2002), Toby Stephens (Coriolanus, RSC, 1994) and Tom Hollander (The Way of the World, Lyric Hammersmith, 1992)
Charleson, who died in 1991, was most widely known for his starring roles in two major British films – as Eric Liddell in the Oscar-winning movie Chariots of Fire and Rev. Charlie Andrews in Gandhi. On stage he was regarded as a legend with performance highlights including Guys and Dolls, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Fool for Love, and Hamlet.
