Paapa Essiedu stars as Hamlet at the Royal Shakespeare Company

Rising star Paapa Essiedu stars as Hamlet in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of Hamlet.

Set in Africa, and with a mainly black ensemble cast, Essiedu is the first black actor to play the title role in Shakespeare’s searing tragedy at the RSC.

The cast includes Paapa Essiedu (Hamlet), Cyril Nil (Polonius), Tanya Moodie (Gertrude), Natalie Simpson (Ophelia), Clarence Smith (Claudius), Ewart James Walters (Ghost/Grave digger),Hiran Abeysekera (Horatio), Marcus Griffiths (Laertes), Romayne Andrews,Doreene Blackstock, Eke Chuckwu, James Cooney, Bethan Cullinane, Marieme Diouf, Temi Wilkey, Theo Ogundipe, Kevin N Golding and Byron Mondahl.

Hamlet plays until 13 August 2016 at the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon.
