Menier Studios to become a new cabaret style performance space
A new “cabaret-style” performance space has been completed beneath London’s Menier Chocolate Factory. Called the Menier Studio, the new performance space, which is not associated with Menier Chocolate Factory Theatre, is able to seat up to 200 and can be adapted to host cabaret-style events, with audiences sitting at tables and chairs.
Don Riley, who is overseeing the project, said “We want someone to come and set up another Menier operation there like David [Babani] has done upstairs. It took a year and a half until we found David so it has to be the right person at the right time. “
He hoped the space would produce musical theatre, but added that there was scope to stage lesser-known work. He said “It would be great to put things on for a week or two at a time on an experimental basis to get the flavour right. We want to attract another theatre audience as well as our already-loyal audiences,”
The Menier Studio will launch on 8 February 2016 with an orchestral concert performed by the Beethoven Orchestra for Humanity.
