Alison Steadman withdraws from UK premiere of Rabbit Hole

Alison Steadman has pulled out of the UK premiere of David Lindsay-Abaire’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play Rabbit Hole at Hampstead Theatre.

Steadman, who cited personal reasons for her withdrawal, was announced as part of the original cast alongside Claire Skinner and Tom Goodman-Hill, but will now be replaced by Penny Downie.

Hampstead Theatre artistic director Edward Hall, who is directing the play, said he was “delighted” to welcome Downie to the venue.  He added: “The company is looking forward to be working with her and we hope to welcome Alison back to the venue in the future.”

David Lindsay-Abaire’s stunning award winning drama, filled with distinctive wit and grace, charts the journey of grief and its antidotes – love and hope.

Rabbit Hole runs from 29 January 2016 until 5 March 2016 at Hampstead Theatre.
