Cameron Mackintosh has finally confirmed his award-winning musical Miss Saigon will transfer to Broadway in spring 2017.
The production will open for a limited season in a yet-to-be announced Broadway venue before embarking on a North American tour in 2018.
The current West End stars Eva Noblezada and Jon Jon Briones will continue their roles in New York. For 50-year-old Briones, who has been in the show since its premiere, the production will mark his Broadway debut.
Miss Saigon originally premiered at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane starring the yet unknown Lea Salonga, running from 1989 until 1999; the production also had a successful 10 year Broadway run.
Boublil and Schönberg’s musical tells the tragic tale of young bar girl Kim, orphaned by the Vietnam war, who falls in love with an American GI called Chris – but their lives are torn apart by the fall of Saigon.
Miss Saigon’s final performance at the Prince Edward Theatre in London will be 27 February 2016.
